February 2007 CHAPTER NEWS:

Visit Zambia Essay Competition
Open to Graduate Student Members of Middle Tennessee Chapter of SfN

GUIDELINES: Choose ONE subject from the list shown below and write a concise ORIGINAL paper, reviewing in detail the literature that is relevant to the selected topic. This review must be submitted to Terri Ray at terri.ray@vanderbilt.edu by Friday, 2 March 2007 without exception.

1. HIV/AIDS Dementia
2. Cerebral Malaria
3. Major Depressive Disease
4. Epilepsy

The format of the paper should mimic a Nature Reviews Neuroscience article and it should be five-single-spaced pages including ORIGINAL illustrative figures, but excluding references; 11 point Ariel, single-spaced and 1-inch paper margins. The references should include the full citation (all of the authors and full title).

Each submitted paper will be critically reviewed and scored by a panel of faculty who are experts in the relevant theme areas. Two winners of the best rated submission will be announced on Monday, 19 March 2007. Their prize money of $500 per scholar will be applied towards their travel expenses to present and participate at the neuroscience retreat and workshop to be held in Zambia in June 2007.

2007 SfN Travel Awards to the IBRO World Congress: The Society is pleased to offer 15 travel awards in the amount of $1500 for outstanding graduate students from the US, Canada, and Mexico to attend the 2007 IBRO World Congress (http://www.ibro2007.org/), held every four years. This year, the conference will be held in Melbourne, Australia. Award recipients will be chosen on the basis of scientific merit of their abstract, evidence of community outreach, and letters of nomination from both the graduate student’s advisor and the local nominating chapter.

Nomination forms will be available online at www.sfn.org/TravelAwards_IBRO on January 17, 2007. Please view the nomination form for a description of the award and instructions for submission. The nomination deadline is February 15, 2007.
