2006 CHAPTER
NEWS: Zambian
Retreat and Workshop information: The
MTNCSfN chapter is planning an international
Retreat and Workshop to be held in Lusaka, ZAMBIA
(tentatively planned for 11-17
June 2007; check out http://www.zambiatourism.com).
This event is exclusively open to MTNCSfN members.
MTNCSfN has embarked on a fund-raising campaign
to raise funds to provide full travel and meeting support to
several graduate students and postdocs, as well as cover the
airfare portion for interested faculty to the upcoming Zambian
Retreat and Workshop. Thus we submitted applications
to the (a) Society for Neuroscience
for
$2000 – this
has been funded, (b) International Brain Research Organization
for $6000 – application is in currently in review and the
outcome will be announced in November 2006, and (c) Gates Foundation
for $75,000 – decision on Letter of Intent is due in November
2006. An NIH R13 Workshop grant application is in preparation
for submission on the next deadline in December 2006. Other funding
sources will be targeted in the coming months.
The Chapter award from SfN in the amount of $2000 will be used
as Prize Money to be awarded to four graduate students and/or
postdoc scholars (at $500 per scholar) who submit the best
researched papers (i.e. along Nature Neuroscience Reviews
format) on the key topics listed above. In each case, the
prize money
of $500 will be applied towards the travel and meeting expenses
for the student/postdoc to attend and participate in the
retreat and workshop. We will soon announce an invitation
to graduate
students and postdocs who are members of MTNCSfN to participate
in this competition; please keep checking our web site, http://www.mtncsfn.org/,
for related guidelines for this competition (as well as information
on other activities of the MTNCSfN). Sincerely,
