March is Brain Awareness Month!

Each year, the chapter participates in Brain Blast as an educational outreach activity.  The event was held at Vanderbilt 100 Oaks on March 7.  For more information about Brain Blast and Brain Awareness Month, see this article in the VUMC Reporter.

As a fun neuroscience activity, we polled participants about how they see a dress that went viral on the internet for a debate about whether it is white and gold or blue and black.  From 93 participants at Brain Blast, 68% voted blue black while 28% voted white gold and 4% said that their perception flipped between blue black and white gold.  Here is a clip of a news brief with the famous dress and the science behind our color perception and illusions.  http://www.nbcnews.com/nightly-news/video/the-science-behind-the-black-and-blue–or-white-and-gold–dress-405695555960Dress Color Perception Poll 2015
